Last month a woman on Facebook shared that she always tell her granddaughters “to date a nerd” because he may become the next Mark Zuckerberg. When the post came into the notice of Mark Zukerberg (CEO of Facebook) he wrote a wonderful relationship advice saying that,
“Even better would be to encourage them to *be* the nerd in their school so they can be the next successful inventor!”
Mark’s comment drew a lot of attention throughout the world but that wasn’t just enough. Facebook headquarters now reportedly have pink coloured posters over the wall, which read, “be the nerd.“
Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg wrote:
“At Facebook, we have posters all over our walls with our favourite mantras and motivators. Here is a newer addition–and one of my favourites. “Be the nerd” is based on Mark’s response to a Facebook comment from a woman who said she encourages her granddaughters to date the nerd in school. Even better, Mark said, would be “to encourage them to *be* the nerd in their school so they can be the next successful inventor.” Nerds everywhere–including this one–approve. #LeanIn
Sandberg also shared pictures along with the post which drew a lot of attention of people, appraising the Facebook ‘Wall’.
At this, Gene Park (Social Media Editor, Opinions at Washington Post) commented,
“Growing up, I was always bullied pretty viciously, being branded as a “nerd.” I wish there were motivators like this when I was a child, but even as an adult, this still holds meaning for me.“
Robert Scble (Futurist at Rackspace Hosting) also commented, “I want this on a Tshirt.”
Most of the people are wishing to download the posters or to merchandise the quote on Tshirts, etc.
You can also download the poster here.
