In 2009, Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’ caused mayhem at box office. Aamir Khan, Boman Irani, R. Madhwan and Sharman Joshi had won a million hearts with their acting.
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’, film’s most famous character was ‘Funsukh Wangdu’, which was played by Aamir Khan. We all are unaware about the fact that the character of Funsukh Wandu was real and inspired by Sonam Wangchuk, an engineer in Ladakh.
Wangchuk had been awarded with the Hall Of Fames “Rolex Award for Enterprise 2016”. Besides many difficulties in his way, Sonam Wangchuk is continuously moving towards the upliftment and betterment of society and education system. He is constantly trying to keep the model of modern education and have largely succeeded in this.
He is working for fulfilling the dreams of the talented kids who do not get a chance to grow, and entirely devoted his life in working for the welfare of these kids only. For this he also founded an institution named “The Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh” (SECMOL).
Born on September 1, 1966 Sonam Wangchuk is trying to research new ways of farming in regions of Western Himalayas by making mound of snow. These areas are facing water scarcity, especially in the months of April and May. This time is very special for crops also.
I hope you all remember the school of Funsukh Wangdu in the film 3 idiots. That school is entirely the idea of none other than this man. He had collaborated with the J&K government and translated the entire study course into their local language. In 1994, he gathered about 1000 students who had been kicked out of school or were unable to go to school and started an organization.
Like Aamir helped the boy who worked in his campus and afterwards he helped him in running his school. Similarly, Sonam Wangchuk started a school with the help of these students, which was fully managed and run by the students only and fully equipped with the solar energy. He always favours changing the study curriculum; as he believes that studies should be practical too, so that students can enjoy studying.
There are many who think to change the society or work for the society but there are only few of them who implement it and become a change. Our film industry is also helping these people by making movies based on their life and encouraging them.
A big salute to Sonam Wangchuk for being the change and Rajkumar Hirani for making 3 Idiots.
