2017 was a year of shock and surprises for all of us. We the Indian citizens, have witnessed the better and bitter India with the success of female sports players in almost every sports field and failure by giving attention to insignificant controversies which are irrelevant for nation.
2017 has come to an end, and now is the time to recap the year which has ended, with a blink of an eye.
Here are few major happenings of 2017 which affect our lives, in one way or other.
Indian movies are becoming more and more popular around the world. Rajkumar Rao starring Newton is India’s official entry to Oscar, 2018. This political satire marked it’s presence in Oscar race after beating Bahubali-2 The Conclusion.
Meanwhile, Bahubali-2 starring Prabhas is the highest grossing movie of this year which made business of 511.3 Cr.
Raees starring Shahrukh Khan stood second with an estimated earning of 308 Cr.
#Top Selling Smartphone Brand
Xiaomi marked its milestone by selling over 1 million smartphones in India in just 2 days. Xiaomi is leading with 23 5% market share (just close to Samsung) and with a shipment volume of over 9.2 million smartphones in Q3 2017.
Also, it’s 3 models are in the top five smartphones sale in India namely, “Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A.”
#The Year Of Controversies
This year stood interesting for controversies because except Bollywood and politics, Hospitals have also began to be a part of it.
Abhinav Verma’s mother died due to negligence of Bengaluru’s Fortis Hospital Medical Team. Later he took this issue to social media and Zee News, where he exploit the true story behind this medical kidnapping.
Also, Max hospital in New Delhi lost it’s license over negligence for declaring an infant dead, while he was alive.
Apart from these, we can’t dare to omit Hrithik Roshan and Kangana’s war which stood entertaining for entire nation. Needless to mention the ongoing Padmavati/Karni Sena dispute.
July gave us multiple reasons to remorse. The terror attack on pilgrims during Amarnath Yatra in J&K killed many. Even the nature was not in our favor. Heavy rain in monsoon raised the level of most of the rivers causing flood in many states. More than 200 died.
Also, One cannot forget, 290 children who died at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur due to lack of Oxygen.
Soon after the terror attack in J&K, Indian Army marked it’s victory over LET militant Abu Dujana, who was shot dead in J&K. A moment of joy was also cherished when the Indian women cricket team captained by Mithali Raj, reached the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Not to forget, ISRO had also set a new record in Feb 2017, after it successfully launched 104 satellites in one go from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
#Top Women In Sports
Undoubtedly, this year female players were starring bright in every sports field.
Indian captain Mithali Raj (34) scripted history by becoming first player in the history of women’s ODI cricket to score more than 6000 career runs.
Also, Saina Nehwal, the former World no. 1 player, also had an eventful year and she won the Malaysia Masters badminton title in 2017.
PV Sindhu who won the Syed Modi International, India Open and Korea Open badminton tournaments in 2017. She has reached all-time high of 2nd ranked women badminton player.
Nagpur’s Kanchanmala Pande created history as she became the first Indian to secure pole position at the World Para-Swimming Championship in Mexico.

To all the bibliophiles, Amazon declared the 10 best books so far for this calender year and to our surprise, Indian Author Arundhati Roy’s “The Ministry Of Utmost Happiness” has been ranked as No. 1
This was her second novel twenty years after her debut, The God of Small Things.
