Zaira Wasim: The Exciting Journey of Dangal Actress From Kashmir To Bollywood

Fresh Young face in Bollywood, Zaira Wasim is all set to make her debut with Aamir Khan’s DANGAL. This young girl is mere 16 years old and belongs to Srinagar, Kashmir.

After competing against thousand of young actress, Zaira earned the role of “Geeta Phogat” (first woman wrestler from India to have won the gold in the 55 kg freestyle category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games) daughter of “Mahavir Singh Phogat” (Aamir Khan) in the film Dangal.

Zaira Wasim told IANS,

 “I was like new to the (showbiz) world and felt nervous when I was working with my co-actors on the sets.”

Being born in October 2000, she rose to fame quite early in life. Before making the Bollywood debut, this teenage cute girl was spotted in Microsoft Lumia and Tata Sky advertisements in 2015. Currently she is studying in 10th standard.

As she started her career in Bollywood, the parents were completely against her decision to become a Bollywood star, but with due consent and negotiation with Zaira’s school principal, she could work for her first debut with some ease.

Zaira Wasim went under vigorous training and has put in a lot of efforts to make her role appropriate in movie as a wrestler. She along with her co-stars, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra and Suhani Bhatnagar stayed in Mumbai for 6 months in Aamir’s apartment to prepare for DANGAL.

She said,

“The experience has been so strong to change my life. Playing Geeta Phogat, the role demanded wrestling skills on my part. I had to go through rigorous physical and mental training,”

She labelled herself as shy and introvert, and has limited number of friends. Well, this is all before the starting of her career in Bollywood.  😆

Apart from being a good actress, Zaira Wasim loves playing guitar, plays with her pet cats and is also fond of reading. She has this another weird habit of breaking things too, and has a keen interest in destructive ideas, earthquakes, turbulent fights and wind turbines.
