Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez will be known as the only Miss Universe contestant to hold the crown for the shortest span of time, merely for 90 seconds.
In an unexpected declaration of Miss Universe 2015 final, Miss Colombia was crowned as the winner mistakenly by the host, Steve Harvey, as he reads the wrong name.
His mistake made Miss Universe 2015 as one of the most watched beauty pageant. Later on, 26 years old, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was declared as the official winner.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez remained crowned for about 90 seconds and while she was enjoying the glory on stage, Steve Harvey interrupted to accept his apology awkwardly, and declared Miss Colombia as first runner up.
Steve Harvey is a famous American Television personality, who is also an actor and an author.
Miss Philippines looked stunned when Steve Harvey said, ‘Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.’
Miss Colombia was then supposed to give up her crown for Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Miss Colombia went badly into tears after this incident took place, while at the backstage Miss Philippines called the ending to be “very non-traditional.”
Footage of the mistake went viral on social media and the winner declaration envelope was revealed as a proof that Steve Harvey actually read the wrong name by mistake. He apologized on stage and took full responsibility of it.
Later, he also apologized from his twitter account but was again criticized for misspelling the country names, written Colombia as Columbia and Philippines as Philippians.
Apparently, Indian participant, Urvashi Rautela couldn’t make it to the top 15 finals and called the pageant to be biased. She revealed to the news sources by telling that the judges were pressurized to announce Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as winner and also alleged that Miss Colombia already knew that her name would be declared mistakenly as the winner’s name.
